Men's Volleyball Earns First Ever NEAC Win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 LANCASTER, Pa. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team hit the road for a North Eastern Athletic Conference cross over weekend on Friday and Saturday. The Phoenix earned their first ever conference victory with a 3-0 defeat of D'Youville College in their second match of the opening day and followed that up with a 3-0 win over Hilbert on Saturday.

The Phoenix (4-9, 2-4 NEAC) swept the Spartans (3-5, 2-2 NEAC) by scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-23. No stats were available at the time we posted this story.

In the opening match of the day Friday, the Phoenix battled Medaille College (4-6, 1-0 NEAC) to 5 sets but eventually fell to the Mavericks by scores of 27-25, 21-25, 17-25, 25-23, and 10-15. For the match, the Phoenix had 41 kills against 32 errors for a .066 attacking percentage. Sophomore Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) led the Phoenix with 17 kills and 14 digs while freshman Nick Baxter (Denver, Pa., Cocalico) added 11 kills. Freshman Ian Firestone (York, Pa., York Suburban) added 36 assists and sophomore Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) tallied 12 digs.

On Saturday the Phoenix dominated in a 3-0 win over Hilbert College, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 28-26. For the match, the Phoenix had 34 kills against 14 errors for an attacking percentage of .217. Baxter had a game high 13 kills while Aaron Hoke added 9 kills and sophomore Zachary Zerr (Dallastown, Pa, Dallastown Area H.S.) tallied 5 kills. Firestone totaled a game high 30 assists while Aaron and Evan Hoke each added 8 digs in the victory.

The win marks the first time in program history the Phoenix have won back-to-back games.

Wilson will return to action on Friday, September 24 at home versus Southern Virginia at 5:00 p.m.
