(LATHAM, N.Y.) – After helping Wilson open up conference play with a pair of wins,
Chloe Irving (So., Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg) has been named the United East Defensive Player of the Week. Irving averaged nine rebounds per game over the stretch as the Phoenix knocked off Penn State Harrisburg and Cairn.
It's the third time in four weeks that Wilson has received a player of the week award after
Chelcie Forrester and
Leah Laubach received defensive honors two and three weeks ago, respectively.
In Wednesday's league opener against the Lions, Irving pulled down five rebounds and made four steals which resulted in just the second win for the Phoenix over Harrisburg in program history. The Mountain State product followed up with 13 caroms in just 14 minutes with another steal as Wilson cruised by Cairn on Saturday.
The baker's dozen matched a career high set last year against Penn State Brandywine and gave her just her second double-double despite being a primary sixth-woman for the Phoenix on Saturday.
Irving and the Phoenix are off as finals take place this week. They will return to action in the sunshine of San Juan as they take part in the Puerto Rico Classico against Marymount on Thursday, December 18, and Franklin the following day.
