Phoenix Move Win Streak To Seven vs. Valley Forge

(PHOENIXVILLE, Pa.) – Wilson will head into Saturday's regular season finale riding a seven-game win streak as it defeated Valley Forge on the road Tuesday evening. Jewels Torres (Sr., York, Pa. / West York) and Chloe Irving (So., Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg) led the way for the Phoenix who defeated the Patriots for a ninth consecutive time dating back to the 2021-2022 season.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 55, Valley Forge 39

Venue: UVF Gymnasium

Records: Wilson 15-9, 8-4 UE; Valley Forge 1-20, 0-13

How It Happened
  • This one was controlled start to finish by the Phoenix. While Valley Forge did take a slight early lead after a 3-pointer 61 seconds into the contest, Wilson put together an 18-0 run that stretched into the second quarter following a layup by Isabelle Campbell (FY, Cogan Station, Pa. / Williamsport). The Patriots did go on an 8-0 run to get back within single digits, but Aniya Gonzalez (So., Reading, Pa. / Governor Mifflin) added a pair of free throws just before the half to give Wilson a 22-11 lead at the break.
  • The Phoenix got really hot in the third quarter as they went 10-for-14 in the frame. It resulted in 21 points. Although the Patriots also had their best offensive quarter of the night, they were unable to put a dent in Wilson's lead. The Phoenix built up their lead at the start of the fourth with a 3-pointer by Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon (Jr., Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery), a layup by Irving, and four points from Torres to make the score 52-29. Leah Laubach (So., Marietta, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) added a jumper shortly after to build the lead back up to 23, the largest of the night for the Phoenix.
Inside The Numbers
  • Torres finished with 15 points after going 6-for-15 from the field.
  • Irving added 11 points after going 4-for-6. She added four rebounds and four steals.
  • Laubach put in nine and also added four steals.
  • Lae Black (Sr., Laurel, Md. / Meade) was impressive on the defensive end with five steals. It matches her career-high which was set on Saturday against Keystone.
  • The Phoenix swiped away a season-best 21 steals for the third time this year. They also did so against Valley Forge at home as well as Trinity Washington back in November. It's the fifth time this year the Phoenix has recorded at least 20 steals.
  • The seven game win streak is the longest for the Phoenix since the 2022-23 season when they won eight-straight from December 3 to January 14.
