(LATHAM, N.Y.) – The United East announced its postseason awards for baseball's Skye Division on Wednesday afternoon and six Wilson student-athletes have been honored.
Kodi Deskins (FY, Tampa, Fla. / Clearwater Central Catholic), Harry Middlebrooks (FY, Bel Air, Md. / Archbishop Curley), and
Haden Hoff (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Westminster) are all first team selections, while
Jordan Daphney (Jr., Countryside, Fla. / Countryside), Jordan McKenzie (Sr., White Plains, Md. / North Point), and
Emilio Rodriguez (So., Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Curley) are second team selections.
Deskins had an explosive rookie campaign as he hit for .387, 13th in the United East and the top amongst catchers, after he went 41-for-106 through 33 games. Deskins put together an 11-game hit streak during the season and had multiple hits during seven games. As the Phoenix catcher he was ninth in the conference with 206 putouts on the season.
Middlebrooks also blasted onto the season as a middle infielder for the Blue and White. He was fourth in United East with a .417 batting average, fifth in hits with 58, eighth in on-base percentage at .494, eighth in doubles with 12, and fifth in stolen bases with 27. He put together the longest hit streak of anyone on the team at 18 games and ended the year on a seven-game streak. His reached base streak was even longer at 21 games. Middlebrooks was named United East Player of the Week on March 25 with numbers so strong that he was also named NCBWA National Rookie of the Week as well.
Hoff ends his career with the Phoenix in style as a first team outfielder. He was ninth in the conference with a .401 batting average, fourth with a .406 on-base percentage, sixth in hits with 57, seventh in runs scored with 44, and sixth in hits by pitches with 12. He had 18 multiple hit games, reached base in 15 consecutive, and ended the season by reaching in 10-straight. Hoff was excellent in the outfield with a perfect fielding percentage with 50 putouts and an assist on 51 chances.
Daphney was the leader of the Phoenix – which ranks second in the nation with a team batting average of .350, at the plate with a conference-best batting average of .434, a mark that currently ranks 28th in the nation. Daphney was third in the league with 62 hits, sixth in doubles with 13, and top 10 in sacrifice flies. He was also a threat to steal with 12 swiped bags on the season. He had 15 multiple hit games and ended the season with a 13-game hit streak.
McKenzie becomes a two-time all-conference selection after he was a first team pick last season. He hit .322 on the season with an OPS of .943 and a slugging percentage of .530. McKenzie was one of the main components in Wilson's offensive production as his 38 runs were 14th in the conference. He ends his career with the Phoenix No. 28 among active leaders in Division III with a .398 batting average and No. 30 with a .662 slugging percentage.
Rodriguez also becomes a two-time all-conference choice after being named a first team selection a year ago. Pitching in a variety of roles, the righty threw a combined 35.1 innings in 11 appearances and six starts. Batters hit just .186 against him this season. He was also sixth in the conference and third in the division with 53 strikeouts. Rodriguez fanned a career-best 10 batters in the Skye Division tournament where he allowed just two hits in 8.0 innings of a combined shutout victory against Cairn.
