(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson baseball team will enter the United East Championship tournament on a high note as it swept Notre Dame in the regular season finale on Sunday. Seniors were honored prior to Game 1 and
Chase Supensky (Sr., Baltimore, Md. / Towson) made the most of the special day with a complete game victory. The Phoenix carried momentum into Game 2 where they came from behind midway through the game to complete the sweep.

How It Happened (Game 1)
- The opener featured a pitchers' duel between Supensky and Notre Dame's AJ Williams. The Phoenix were able to get to Williams first as they touched him for a solo run in the second. Derek Chavera (FY, Falfurrias, Texas / Falfurrias) doubled down the third base line, moved over on a sacrifice, and scored on a ground out to put Wilson in front.
- The senior southpaw Supensky was dealing from the start. The Gators loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but Supensky escaped the jam by getting two batters to go down on called strikes. NDMU eventually got on the board in the seventh after moving on a wild pitch.
- That set the scene for the bottom of the eighth when Joe Nawrocki (So., Parkton, Md. / Calvert Hall) scored the eventual game-winning run. He led off the frame with a walk and moved up after an infield error. Seth Bivens (Sr., Hancock, Md. / Hancock / Hagerstown) brought him in with a base hit up the middle. Supensky then retired three of four batters faced to end the game.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- The Gators opened up a 2-0 lead with solo runs in the first and second before Wilson followed suit in the second and third. Cody Valentine (Jr., Fairfield, Pa. / St. Andrews) led off the second with a double and eventually scored on a squeeze play by Jake McFarland (FY, Salisbury, Md. / James M. Bennett). Bivens led off the third with a base knock to right center before scoring two batters later on a Garrett Drish (FY, Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) liner up the middle.
- NDMU regained the lead with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Singles by Chavera and Valentine put Wilson back in contention with Valentine rounding in Chavera. Sandro Granados (So., Hyattsville, Md. / Northwestern) then drove in Valentine on a base hit before Payton Bennett (Jr., Buckhannon, W.Va. / Buckhannon-Upshur / Davis & Elkins) delivered brought in Granados and McFarland for the lead. Jordan Stucki (Jr., Costa Mesa, Calif. / Costa Mesa / Greenville) added some insurance with a base hit up the middle to bring in Valentine who led off the eighth with a triple to right center.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Valentine was excellent in the nightcap with a 3-for-4 game with three runs scored and an RBI. He was a home run shy of the cycle.
- Eight different players recorded hits for the Phoenix in Game 2.
- Supensky allowed just one run on seven hits and six walks in the opener.
- Leon Taylor Jr. (FY, Baltimore, Md. / St. Frances) recorded the win in Game 2 after pitching a hitless seventh. Bivens registered the hold while Chavera closed it out for his third save of the year.

The Phoenix will be the ninth seed in the United East Championship and will travel to No. 8 Penn State Brandywine. The two are scheduled to meet on Tuesday.
