Box Score (DOYLESTOWN, Pa.) – Wilson overcame a seven-run deficit to tie the game in the ninth, but Delaware Valley was able to have the final word and walk off with a win on Wednesday afternoon. The Aggies jumped up on the Phoenix with nine runs over the first three innings which forced the Blue and White to chip away for the remainder of the game.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 9, DelVal 10
Venue: Frank Wolfgang Field
Records: Wilson 6-1, DelVal 5-6
How It Happened
- Wilson found itself in trouble early as the Aggies plated four runs and left the bases loaded in the first inning. Three more followed in the second inning, but Jordan McKenzie (Sr., White Plains, Md. / North Point) was able to generate some momentum and spark the slow-build comeback attempt with a three-run home run to left center in the third. An error allowed two more Aggies to score in the bottom of the inning to make the score 9-3.
- Justin Fleig (Sr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) got the rally train going once again with a double to left center in the top of the fourth. After a wild pitch, Brady Andre (Sr., Brookeville, Md. / Sherwood) singled up the middle to bring him home. Two innings later, Andre singled down the right field line to score Fleig once again to make the score 9-5.
- Two more runs followed in the seventh as Peyton Taylor (Sr., Worton, Md. / Kent County) homered to right field to score Harry Middlebrooks (FY, Bel Air, Md. / Archbishop Curley). Middlebrooks tripled right before the round trip, both of which took place with two outs.
- The comeback was completed in the top of the ninth as Wilson finally pulled even with DelVal. McKenzie led off the frame with a walk, stole second, and scored on a double to left by Middlebrooks. He eventually scored on a single to right by Jodan Daphney (Jr., Countryside, Fla. / Countryside) to make the score 9-9.
- Unfortunately the Aggies were able to plate the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. A base hit, an error, and a hit batter set up Reese Hackett who singled to right center to score Ridge Watson.
Inside The Numbers
- Middlebrooks finished the day 3-of-4 from the plate with two runs and an RBI. He's on a five-game hit streak in which he is 8-for-18 over that stretch.
- Fleig tallied a career-high three hits and scored a pair of runs. Andre also had a multiple-hit game for the Phoenix.
- McKenzie's home run was his third of the second and eighth of his career with the Phoenix. Taylor's was his first of the season and second of his career.
- Both teams were even with 12 hits each. Five of those were for extra bases for the Phoenix, but the Aggies benefited from eight walks, four hit batters and four errors.
- Jack Lloyd (FY, Laurel, Md. / Reservoir) was a bright spot for the Phoenix bull pen as he struck out four and allowed just three base runners on two hits and a walk in 3.0 innings of scoreless baseball.
