Box Score (LYNCHBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson women's basketball team returned to action and traveled to Lynchburg for the final non-conference game of the season. Unfortunately for the Phoenix, but Hornets were abuzz despite the winter break and handed the loss to the Blue and White.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 46, Lynchburg 104
Venue: Turner Gym
Records: Wilson 4-7, 3-1 United East; Lynchburg 5-6, 1-5 ODAC
How It Happened
- Although a quick trip to the free throw line allowed Wilson a quick lead on an Adrianna Stricek (So., Harrisburg, Pa. / Trinity) free throw, the hosts were quick to turn things around and surged to a 10-point lead over the next four minutes.
- Stricek caught fire for a bit late in the first quarter as she scored all the points on a 6-0 run on three jumpers. It allowed Wilson to cut the deficit back down to single digits as it made the score 17-9, but a 10-2 run by the Hornets returned all the momentum back to the hosts at the start of the second quarter.
- Lynchburg grew stronger the rest of the way and a deep bench allowed the Hornets to increase their lead throughout the day. Six players scored in double-figures and 13 total reached the scoring column en route to the win.
Inside The Numbers
- Stricek was the lone double-figure scorer for the Phoenix as she finished with 12 points. The bulk of them came in the first quarter, and she shot well overall from the field with a 4-for-7 mark before the Hornets defense focused on her and limited her chances.
- Yaya Cannon (Sr., Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic / Elizabethtown) also did well from the field as she was 4-for-6 and scored nine points on the day.
- Rebounds heavily favored the Hornets as the hosts dominated the glass by a 49-25 margin. Stricek led the Phoenix on the glass with six boards, one shy of tying game-high honors.
