Eagles Soar Past Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa, - The Wilson College women's basketball team played at home for the first time in the new year and suffered a 96-57 defeat to the visiting Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth in North Eastern Athletic Conference action.

The game opened up with back and forth action as the two teams would trade baskets for the first six minutes of the opening quarter. Freshman Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl, South Fort Myers) scored the first basket for the Phoenix and freshman Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) gave the home team their first lead at 8-6 with bucket midway through the quarter. The Eagles grabbed the lead back a couple of minutes later on a Deja Ingram layup and they never trailed again. The Eagles finished the first quarter on a 15-5 run and held a 26-17 lead.

The second quarter saw the Eagles shooting heat up as they outscored the Phoenix 29-7 in the quarter and pushed the lead to 55-24 at the break. The Phoenix played a solid second half against the Eagles, led by Senior Morgan Wonders   (Newville, Pa. , Big Spring ) with 11 points and 8 rebounds and 12 points from Day. However, the Phoenix could not close the gap as the Eagles continued to hold a strong edge on the boards and were able to finish the game off with a 96-57 victory.

For the game, Wonders led the Phoenix with her fourth double-double of the season as she posted 21 points and 11 rebounds. Day added 18 points and 3 assists, while Purvis totaled 10 points and 6 boards. The Eagles were led by Jasmine Poole with 25 points and 11 rebounds.

With the loss the Phoenix move to 2-5 overall on the season and 0-4 in NEAC play, while the Eagles improve to 4-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Wilson will be back on the home court tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. versus the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
