Eagles Top Phoenix in Women's Hoops

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Wilson College women's basketball team traveled to take on the College of Saint Elizabeth in North Eastern Athletic Conference action on Sunday. The Eagles topped the Phoenix by a final score of 81-46.

Freshmen Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) and Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl, South Fort Myers) led the Phoenix offensive attack on the afternoon with 13 and 12 points respectively. Purvis and senior Alexis Ankro (Tappan, N.Y., Tappan Zee ) led the team with 4 rebounds each.

The Eagles opened the game with a 3-point basket by Amerisse Rogers and the Phoenix quickly responded with a basket by sophomore Amber Jones (Waldorf, Md. , Maurice J McDonough ). After the bucket by Jones, the Eagles would go on a 10-0 run to jump out to a 12-2 lead midway through the first quarter. Day would knock down a 3-point shot to cut the deficit to 6 points with just over 2 minutes remaining, but the Eagles would finish the quarter on a 7-2 run and take a 25-14 lead. During the second quarter, the Eagles would use a 12-2 run to push their advantage 37-17. A pair of Day free throws would cap the first half scoring for both teams, but the hosts would hold a 38-21 lead at intermission.

The second half would see the Eagles gradually grow their lead and the Phoenix weren't able to mount a come back. The Eagles offense was paced by Deja Ingram who had a double-double with a game high 21 points and 12 rebounds. Ashley Pledger added 20 points, while Jasmine Poole tallied 13 points and 9 rebounds.

With the loss the Phoenix fall to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in NEAC play, while the Eagles move to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Wilson will be back in action after the Christmas break on January 7, as they travel to Penn State Abington.
