Phoenix Grounded By Owls

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season to the visiting Owls of Bryn Mawr College by a final score of 77-52 at the Gannett Memorial Field House.

Freshman
Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl, South Fort Myers) collected her third straight double-double with a team high 12 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa, Honesdale)recorded a season high 9 points. Senior Morgan Wonders (Newville, Pa. , Big Spring ) contributed 8 points and 9 rebounds, while junior Teniera Prioleau (Baltimore, Md. , Milford Mill Academy ) added a season high 8 points.

Emily Dwyer led the Owls with a game high 24 points, while Cleo Elizabeth-Robertson and Veronica Roux each collected a double-double with Elizabeth-Robertson going for 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Roux added 15 points and 12 boards. Elizabeth Chan just missed a double-double for the Owls with 9 points and 10 rebounds.

The Owls jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter as they opened the game with a 12-0 run. The visitors would lead by as many as 18 points in the opening quarter, a three point basket by freshman
Ashley Henderson   (Waldorf, Md. , North Point ) would cut the lead to 15 with a minute to play and a layup by Prioleau cut the deficit to 13, but a layup by Elizabeth-Robertson pushed the lead back to 15 and the Owls led 26-11 after 1 quarter. The Phoenix opened the second quarter trading baskets before going on a 7-0 run capped off by a three pointer by Watkins to cut the deficit to 8 points. The teams would trade baskets the remainder of the quarter and the Owls would lead 39-30 at the break.

The second half would see the Owls gradually extend their lead in both the third and fourth quarters until the final horn sounded and the visitors came away with a 77-52 victory.

With the loss the Phoenix fall to 2-1 on the season, while the Owls improve to 2-4.

Wilson will be back in action this Saturday when they open North Eastern Athletic Conference play at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, with a 3:00 p.m. tip.
