Phoenix Drop Season Opener To Cairn

Chambersburg, Pa. – The Wilson College women's basketball team dropped its season opener to Cairn University, 80-57 on their home court. 
 
Cairn dominated in the first half, outscoring Wilson 49-24.  Cairn shined on the three point line in the half, successfully executing 9 three-pointers out of 17 attempts.  The Highlanders were also 8-of-16 on the free throw line.  Wilson was unlucky on the free throw line, recording posting a 23.1 free throw percentage (3-of-13).  Additionally, the Phoenix shot 31.0 percent (9-of-29) from the floor in the first half of the contest.

Wilson outscored Cairn in the second half, as they attempted a late comeback.  The Phoenix scored 33 points while Cairn recorded 31.  The Highlanders accumulated more turnovers than the Phoenix, finishing the game with 23, while Wilson had 17.  The Phoenix were unable to close the large deficit of the first half, despite making a late run.  The team also continued to struggle at the free throw line as well as defend the three point line. 
 
Freshman Ashley Henderson finished with 16 pints in the game and was 4-for-7 in three point shots.  Sophomore Teniera Prioleau claimed second place in scoring on her team with 12 points and three assists.  Junior Morgan Wonders contributed with 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds. 
 
The team will host Christendom College on Saturday, November 22 at 5:00 p.m.
