(HARRISBURG, Pa.) – Cole Cooper (FY, Virginia Beach, Va. / Salem) finished his stellar rookie season tied for eighth in the United East Championship at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course on Saturday. As a result, he becomes a United East Second Team All-Conference selection, the first for the Wilson's men's golf program.
Rainy weather caused scores to go up for most of the field, but Cooper was still able to shoot an 80 for a two-day total of 154. He tied with Penn's Brady Handy and Penn State Harrisburg's Dillon Yinger. Yinger had the best round of the tournament with a 69 on Friday morning.
Penn State Berks' Peyton Moyer was the medalist and Golfer of the Year after being one of the few to do better on Day 2 with a 73, one stroke better than his Friday round. He edged out Penn's Gunner Redmond by two strokes for the title. Lancaster Bible's Clark Brubacher was named Rookie of the Year after narrowly placing ahead of Cooper by three strokes.
Cooper was able to record birdies on Hole 7 and Hole 11. He scored par on seven holes Saturday.
