Cooper Tied For Seventh At Conference Championship

(HARRISBURG, Pa.) – The first round of the United East Championship is complete and Wilson's Cole Cooper (FY, Virginia Beach, Va. / Salem) is in the thick of the individual standings. That's because the Phoenix first year linkster is tied for seventh at two-over par and just five strokes off the leader. The event is being played at the Dauphin Highlands Golf Course.

ROUND 1 RESULTS

The Phoenix are currently fifth in the team standings after the Blue and White turned in a 322 first round score. Penn College leads the field with a 293. Penn State Harrisburg is second  at 297. Lancaster Bible, Rutgers-Camden, and Penn State Berks round out the top five with Penn State Abington and Penn State Brandywine sitting in seventh and eighth, respsectively.

Cooper opened the day with a birdie and added another on Hole 5. He ran into some trouble with bogeys on three of the next four holes and a double bogey on 10, but finished the day strong he made par on seven of the last eight holes with the exception of a birdied Hole 16.

Junchen Huang (Jr., Taiwan / Veritas Meihua International) turned in the next-best round for the Phoenix with an 81. Bryson Curtis (Jr., Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) had a solid day with an 83, and Rob Kozicki (Sr., Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill) completed the team score with an 84. Brady Curran (FY, Frederick, Md. / Linganore) is the fifth member this weekend and he finished with an 87.

The championship will conclude on Saturday.
