Cooper Takes Top Spot At Wilson Invitational

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Cole Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va. / Salem) continued his stellar rookie season by being the medalist at Wilson's home invitational at Chambersburg Country Club on Monday. The first year linkster did so by shooting a one-under par 72 to edge out Elizabethtown's Jeremy Otto for top honors.

To put that into perspective, Wilson hosted the United East Championship at Chambersburg Country Club one year ago. The best round among any golfer belonged to Penn College's Will Orwig in the first round. The individual champion was Lancaster Bible's Jake Rotelle. He totaled a 152 with rounds of 78 and 74.

Cooper immediately got off to a hot start with a par and birdie on the first two holes. A double bogey on his third hole temporarily put him one over, but it didn't last long as he quickly pulled even with a birdie on the par-5 Hole 14 two holes later. Cooper capped the first nine with another birdie to finish with a one-under 36.

Another birdie on Hole 2 put him two-under before bogeys on the fourth and fifth put him back even. Cooper finished strong thought with a birdie on Hole 6 before pars on holes 7, 8, and 9 to end the day.

His play helped the Phoenix finish third in the six-team field. Brady Curran (FY, Frederick, Md. / Linganore) was second for the Blue and White with an 81. Bryson Curtis (FY, Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) had one of his best rounds with an 87. Junchen Huang (Jr., Taiwan / Veritas Meihua) and Robert Kozicki (Sr., Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill) both shot a 92 to complete the team scoring.

Elizabethtown won the team title with a 26-over 318. Dickinson was two strokes back to finish second.

Wilson will have one last tune-up before this year's conference championship with the Stevenson Spring Invitational on Thursday.
