Men's Golf Finishes Second At Mont Alto, Cooper Ties Record

(FAYETTEVILLE, Pa.) - Wilson's record-breaking start to the season continued at the Mont Alto Invitational as the Phoenix set a new program mark for team score and finished with a 320—13 strokes lower than the previous record. As a result the Phoenix finished second out of eight teams during Wednesday's event.

Cole Cooper (FY, Virginia Beach, Va. / Salem) led the charge for Wilson with a solid 77 to tie the individual program record for a single round. He was followed closely by Robert Sturgeon (FY, Goldvein, Va. / Liberty) who posted a 79. Junchen Huang (Jr., Taiwan / Veritas Meihua) wasn't far behind, carding an 80, while Brady Curran (FY, Frederick, Md. / Linganore) rounded out the team score with an 84.

PSU Mont Alto led the field with a team score of 311, claiming first place. PSU Scranton took third with a score of 326.

The Phoenix hit the links once again on Thursday in Susquehanna's Fall Invitational. Wilson turned in a team score of 336 with Cooper once again leading the way. This time he fired off a 78 to set a new program mark for the best four rounds during any stretch, let alone to start the season. He finished tied for 24th on the individual leaderboard, seven strokes off from the tournament medalist.

Curran followed up and was second for the Wilson Blue and White with an 83. Huang was three strokes back while Sturgeon completed the team score with an 89.

The River Hawks kept the team title at home with a score of 293. Scranton finished second just three strokes behind.

The Phoenix will return to the links again next weekend in the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Catholic at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown.
