Box Score (ASTON, Pa.) – Jacob McCoy (So., York, Pa. / Spring Grove) and
Ryan Koontz (FY, York Haven, Pa. / Spring Grove) both hit double digits in kills, but it wasn't enough as Wilson fell to Neumann in three sets on Wednesday evening. Despite the sweep, it was competitive throughout as the Phoenix were in each set and threatened to extend it to four late in the third.
The Basics
Scores: Wilson 0, Neumann 3 (25-22, 25-21, 25-23)
Venue: Mirenda Center
Records: Wilson 5-11, Neumann 11-5
How It Happened
- The Phoenix and Knights were neck-and-neck in the end-game of the opening set. Kills from Koontz, Demetrius Simmons (So., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg), and Wyatt Tribett (So., Myersville, Md. / Middletown) but Wilson within one at 21-20, 22-21, and 23-22, respectively. Unfortunately the Phoenix weren't able to get over the hump and the Knights took a 1-0 lead with the next two points.
- Wilson came out on fire in the second as seven kills helped it take a 9-5 lead early, but a 4-0 rally by the hosts tied the frame at 12-all. The Phoenix were able to regain control with kills from McCoy and Koontz before Neumann fired off the next four points to take the lead. Simmons paired up with Vincent Natale (So., Mt. Airy, Md. / Linganore)
- The third was as close as it could get with 19 ties and eight lead changes. Wilson appeared to hold the advantage late as a Knights error and a Koontz kill gave the Phoenix a 21-20 lead. Teams exchanged the next four points with Tribett giving Wilson a 23-22 lead on a kill. The Phoenix couldn't punch through, however, as the Knights closed the night with the final three points.
