(BELLEFONTE, Pa.) – The Wilson Western equestrian team was back in the saddle again with a pair of shows at the Eagle Valley Center on Saturday. The Phoenix put together a pair of well-ridden shows which resulted in third places finishes in both the morning and afternoon events.
The morning show resulted in more top placements as the Phoenix scored three first-place ribbons which were received by
Eva Bowers (Sr., Manchester, Md.), Hayden Sturgeon (So., Clymer, Pa.), and
Matilyn McKelvey (Sr., Arendstville, Pa.). Bowers took top honors in Level II Ranch Riding, Sturgeon was first in Beginner Horsemanship A, and McKelvey took the blue ribbon for Beginner Horsemanship B.
Bowers also finished fifth in Level II Horsemanship.
Julie Warnick (So., New Oxford, Pa.) and
Emily Holland (FY, Emmaus, Pa.) also added fifth place finishes in Open Horsemanship and Rookie A Horsemanship, respectively.
In the afternoon event, Bowers took second place in Level II Ranch Riding for Wilson's top result. Warnick added a fourth place finish in Reining, while Holland was fourth in Rookie A Horsemanship. Sixth place finishes also went to Warnick,
Adaira Decker (FY, Kearneysville, W.Va.), and McKelvey.
Penn State, who served as the host, placed first in both events. Delaware Valley finished second in both events as well.
Wilson will ride again next week at the Saddle Brook Equestrian Center in Schwenksville on Saturday.
