CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team played host to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe, the Giants of Keystone College, earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (6-8, 4-2 CSAC) took down the Giants (2-9, 2-3 CSAC) 12-5. Before today's match, Wilson honored their two seniors,
Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) and
Juliann Winkler (Dingmans Ferry, PA., Delaware Valley).
How It Happened: Keystone struck first with a goal at just under thirteen and a half minutes left in the opening quarter. After winning the ensuing draw, Wilson evened the game up with a goal from sophomore
Kayla McHugh (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin HS), assisted by junior
Rachael Rementer (West Chester, PA, Henderson HS). The Giants went on to add another goal moments later that put them back on top, 2-1; but, the Phoenix responded with a goal from freshman
Emily Young (Fairfax, VA, Chantilly HS), assisted by junior
Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High School), that tied things up at two. Later on, with less than a minute left in the first quarter,
Singer added a goal that put Wilson up 3-2. Wilson went to work in the second quarter, notching four goals that put them on top 7-2 going into halftime. Freshman
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti) came up with two, while freshman
Erin Roszkowiak (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson HS) and sophomore
Anna Gibson (Cecil County, MD, Perryville HS) both added one.
Opening the third quarter,
Lague won the draw and drove down the field for another goal. A little over three minutes later, freshman
Hope Sanders (Hanover, PA, New Oxford HS) got in on the scoring action with a goal that extended the Phoenix lead to 9-2. Keystone scored with less than a minute left in the quarter, but Wilson walked into the final quarter, 9-3.
McHugh,
Lague, and
Singer cashed in goals during the fourth quarter, as the Phoenix took a 12-5 victory.
Inside the Box Score: Lague added four goals, coming up with her seventh hat trick in a row and tenth overall, with three ground balls and five draw controls.
McHugh and
Singer nabbed two goals apiece, while
Sanders,
Roszkowiak,
Young, and
Gibson added one each. The defense played great all game as four Phoenix finished with three caused turnovers, while six others also created turnovers. Sophomores
Delaney Fulfer (Greencastle, PA, Greencastle HS) and
Krystal Kienast (Purcellville, VA, Loudon Valley HS) both split time in goal, combining for 14 saves.
