CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College baseball team took to the field for a one-off against Central Penn College this afternoon. The Phoenix added another win to their overall record today after beating the Knights 16-7. Before the first pitch, the Phoenix honored their twelve seniors,
Jacob Whittington (Salisbury, MD., Univ. of the Sciences), KJ Curry (Bowie, MD., Coker University), Gerald Buchanan (Olney, MD, Montgomery CC (MD)), Kevin Finn (Gaithersburg, MD., Watkins Mill), Eli Klopp (College Park, MD., DeMatha Catholic), Orlando Estevez (Key West, FL., Key West), Dereck Ivey (Fairfield, PA., Fairfield), Cam Nolet (Annapolis, MD., S.C. Aiken), Dylan Procopio (Pittsburgh, PA., Westmoreland Community College), Ethan Phillips (Stewartstown, PA., Kennard-Dale), Colby Maun (Fort Loudon, PA., Frederick Community College), and
Max Little (Crestview, FL., Spangdahlem).
How It Happened: Senior
Ethan Phillips started on the mound for the Phoenix and struck out the first and only batter he faced that inning. Central Penn was the first team to find a run with a home run in the top of the first. Wilson responded with two of their own in the bottom of the first from Curry and
Michael Marrale (Sykesville, MD, Old Dominion Univ.) giving the Phoenix a 2-1 lead over the Knights. In the bottom of the third inning, Wilson broke the stalemate with
Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, MD., Shepherd University) capitalizing on an error from Central Penn. Shortly after four more Phoenix reached home plate extending the Wilson lead to 7-1. The Knights answered with three runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead and trail 4-7. The Phoenix wasted no time expanding their lead, a single from Daniels allowed for two runners to reach home and extend the lead to 9-4. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Curry and Hoff reached home to extend the lead to 11-4. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Phoenix found more runs starting off with Procopio stealing home on a wild pitch. Next to bat was freshman
Chris Baumann (Snow Hill, MD, Snow Hill HS) in his first collegiate at-bat hit a three-run home run to left field bringing the score to 15-4. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Procopio hit a home run to left field to score the final run for the Phoenix. The Knights tried to push their way back into the game at the top of the ninth inning but could only add three leaving the Phoenix victorious with a final score of 16-7.
Inside the Box Score: Curry and
Marrale each had three runs on two hits leading the teams with runs scored.
Baumann led the team in RBIs after his three-run home run. The Phoenix ended the game with ten different players scoring runs, finishing overall with 16 runs scored, 15 hits, and no errors. Central Penn College ended the game with seven runs, 11 hits, and two errors.
Up Next: The Phoenix will travel to Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia on Tuesday, April 26, at 12:00 p.m.
