CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team played host to the Colonels of Wilkes University earlier this evening. The Phoenix (1-2, 0-0 CSAC) lost to the Colonels (1-4, 0-0 MAC) by a final score of 17-2.
How It Happened: Wilkes wasted little time getting things going in this one, as they notched their first goal of the match off a free postilion attempt less than two minutes into the match. The Colonels scored four more goals before Wilson got things going with a goal from freshman
Hope Sanders (Hanover, PA, New Oxford HS), assisted by sophomore
Marissa Eisenhauer (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls), on a buzzer-beating shot to close out the first quarter. In the second, the Colonels snuck one by the keeper less than 15 seconds into the quarter. Freshman
Emily Young (Fairfax, VA, Chantilly HS) managed to get a shot off for the Phoenix but was blocked by the Wilkes goalie. The Colonels managed to score eight unanswered in the second half, as Wilson went into halftime trailing, 13-1.
In the second half, the Phoenix started to get things rolling but the Wilkes defense continued to keep them at bay. The Wilson defense stepped up in this quarter, limiting the Colonels to only three goals in the third. Starting our final quarter of play, the Phoenix won the opening draw which led to a shot off the post from freshman
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti). Later on in the quarter, after a good clear from Wilson, freshman
Jordan Hastie (Frederick, MD, Governor Thomas Johnson HS) fired off a shot that was just wide of the goal. Later on in the quarter, junior
Rachael Rementer (West Chester, PA, Henderson HS) also tallied a shot that went wide of the net. With just over six and a half minutes left in the game, Wilkes notched one more goal. But, the Phoenix responded right back with their second goal of the match off a goal from fifth-year senior
Morgan Burkepile (Millerstown, PA., Greenwood). Wilson went on to drop this game by a final score of 17-2.
Inside the Box Score: Sanders and
Burkepile led the offense with one goal apiece, while
