LANCASTER, Pa. - The Wilson College baseball team traveled today for a one off non-conference match up against the Lancaster Bible College Chargers. The Phoenix (5-0, 0-0 CSAC) remain undefeated as they defeat the Chargers (1-2, 0-0 United East) 12-8.
How It Happened: The Phoenix found the first run of the game in the top of the first inning off a sacrifice fly from junior
Dean Mercer (Dunedin, FL., Clearwater Central Catholic) allowing senior
KJ Curry (Bowie, MD., Coker University) to pass the plate. Lancaster Bible responded in the bottom of the first earning five runs putting them up 5-1. In the second inning, freshman
Doc Daniels (Deal Island, MD, Crisfield HS) hit a homerun out to left field. Skipping ahead to the top of the fourth inning, the Phoenix earned three runs to cut the Chargers lead to win and bring the score to 6-5. Moving on to the next inning, Wilson earned four runs and never looked back. The Phoenix continued to build their lead and finished the game up 12-8.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson earned 12 runs on 15 hits and had five errors on the day. Freshman
Michael Hippchen (Silver Spring, MD, St John's College HS) earned the win with zero errors and five strike outs.
Daniels had the most runs scored of the team with three runs scored on four at bats, as well as three RBIs. Seniors
Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, MD., Shepherd University) and
Michael Marrale (Sykesville, MD, Old Dominion Univ.), as well as junior
Juan Rosario (Hollywood, FL., Hollywood Hills) each earned two run scored on four at bats to help secure the Phoenix victory.
Up Next: The Phoenix will host a non-conference double header Saturday, March 5, with the first game starting at 12:00 p.m. against The City College of New York.
