CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College baseball team battled against the visiting Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg University this afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader match-up. The Phoenix (9-2, 0-0 CSAC) beat the Yellow Jackets (2-6, 0-0 PAC) in both games by a score of 5-4 in the first game and 14-0 in the second.
Game One: Wilson got the scoring started in the middle of the game, earning the first run of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore
Brady Andre (Brookeville, MD, Sherwood HS) hit a bomb to deep right-center field that drove in the first run of the game, giving Wilson a 1-0 lead headed into the top of the fifth. After a quick three and out from senior
Cam Nolet (Annapolis, MD., S.C. Aiken) the Phoenix kept the offense moving into the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, fifth-year
KJ Curry (Bowie, MD., Coker University) was hit home off a double from sophomore
Haden Hoff (Westminster, MD, Fairmont State Univ.), pushing the score to 2-0 after five innings of play. The Yellow Jackets responded in the top of the sixth, stealing back four runs and taking a 4-2 lead. The Phoenix answered right back and tallied three runs in the bottom of the sixth to give Wilson the 5-4 lead. The Phoenix defense squashed the hopes of a Yellow Jacket comeback in the top of the seventh, closing out the game by a final score of 5-4.

Ryan Torres (Baltimore, MD, Archbishop Curley HS) and
Doc Daniels (Deal Island, MD, Crisfield HS) all knocked in RBIs for the Phoenix, while
Hoff added a double and
Andre roped a triple.
Nolet struck out ten batters, while sophomore pitcher
Shane Bowie was credited with his first win of the season, coming in at the top of the sixth and allowing only one hit to secure the victory for the Phoenix.
Game Two: Scoring came quickly for the Phoenix in game two. In the bottom of the first inning,
some heads-up baserunning from
Curry got the scoring started for Wilson. Later on in the inning, the Phoenix earned three runs off two doubles from
Michael Marrale (Sykesville, MD, Old Dominion Univ.) and Gerald Buchanan (Olney, MD, Montgomery CC (MD)) as Wilson took a 3-0 lead early on. Freshman
Chris Baumann (Snow Hill, MD, Snow Hill HS) shut down the Waynesburg's offense for six innings of the game, striking out seven and allowing the Phoenix to continue to build their lead. Senior
Dereck Ivey (Fairfield, PA., Fairfield) came in to close out the game as Wilson took game two with a final score of 14-0.
Inside the Box Score: Curry led the team going 1-3 with three walks, two RBIs, a double, and a stolen base. Junior
Dean Mercer (Dunedin, FL., Clearwater Central Catholic) went 1-2 with two RBIs, a double, and was hit by a pitch.
Baumann earned his fourth win of the season with seven strikeouts and only allowing five hits, while
Ivey allowed one hit and three strikeouts. The Phoenix mustered 14 runs on 11 hits with no errors, while their opponent tallied zero runs on six hits with three errors.
Up Next: The Phoenix will return home for another doubleheader against Penn College (6-4, 0-0 United East) Wednesday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
