LAPLUME, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team hit the road for a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup against the Giants of Keystone College to close out their regular season schedule. The Phoenix (11-13, 10-8 CSAC) were defeated by the Giants (17-7, 14-4 CSAC) by a final score of 70-39.
How It Happened: In the opening minutes of the first quarter, Keystone jumped on a 13-1 before junior
Naomi Hanton (Bristow, Va., Keystone College) put a stop to it with a jumper, assisted by junior
Amanda Smida (Landenberg, Pa., Penn State Harrisburg). Moments later,
Hanton added two more points off a layup, off a pass from junior
Yaya Cannon (Lancaster, Pa., Elizabethtown College). Senior
Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) added two more points before the end of the quarter as Wilson trailed 19-8. In the second quarter, the Phoenix got things going with a jumper from
Hanton, then, on the ensuing Giants possession,
Cannon came up with a steal and dished the ball to
Smida, who connected on the layup. Going into the half, Keystone managed to extend their lead to 45-15.
During the third period of action, Wilson started off hot with a layup from
Hanton, followed by two quick jumpers from sophomore
Krystal Kienast (Purcellville, VA, Loudon Valley HS) and
Smida. A few moments later, junior
Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) came up with a steal and connected on one of her ensuing foul shots. The Phoenix continued to fight but went into the final quarter trailing, 57-28.
Posiulai started the fourth quarter earning three the hard way, connecting on an and-one layup and the foul shot that followed. After
Posiulai added the next four points,
Hanton knocked down another jumper with just over two minutes left. With forty seconds left on the clock, senior
Baylen Snyder (Dover, PA, Dover Area) knocked down the final bucket as Wilson dropped this one by a final score of 70-39.

Hanton paced the offense, adding 12 points each.
Posiulai scored seven of her 12 points in the final quarter while on her way to collecting 18 rebounds;
Hanton finished the night going 6-13 from the floor. The Phoenix outscored their opponents 15-6 on second-chance points, while the bench came up big, outscoring Keystone 14-7.
Up Next: Having secured the four seed in the CSAC playoffs, Wilson will host the Lions of Bryn Athyn (9-13, 8-10 CSAC) on Monday, February 21, at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the CSAC Championship.
