Volleyball Closes Out Season at NEAC Crossover

HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference contests. The Phoenix competed with the Hawks of Hilbert College and the Spartans of D'Youville College and were defeated in both matches by scores of 3-0.

The Phoenix (0-20, 0-16) were defeated in the opening match by the Hawks (10-16, 7-8) by scores of 25-12, 25-17. and 25-21. The Hawks had a strong opening set as the hosts only committed 2 errors and had a solid .412 attacking percentage while taking advantage of 8 Phoenix miscues. Despite fewer errors in the second set, the Phoenix couldn't overcome the Hawks 16 kills. The Hawks pulled away late in the third and final set en route to the 3-0 victory. For the match the Phoenix 13 kills against 22 errors on 80 attempts for an attacking percentage of -.113, while the Hawks posted 34 kills against 16 errors on 78 attempts for a .231 attacking percentage. Freshman Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) led the Phoenix with 7 kills, 10 digs, 1 block and 1 ace. Freshman Jeremy Waldman (New Oxford, Pa., New Oxford) totaled 7 assists while freshman Zachary Zerr (Dallastown, Pa, Dallastown Area H.S.) had 4 kills, 5 assists, 5 digs, and 1 block.

In the second match the Phoenix were defeated by the Spartans (11-15, 7-8) by scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-21. The Phoenix couldn't get much going against the Spartans who held a strong 36-14 advantage in kills and a a 9-3 edge in blocks. For the match the Phoenix had 14 kills against 24 errors on 77 attempts for an attacking percentage of -.130, while the Spartans had 36 kills against 25 errors on 84 attempts for a .131 attacking percentage. Aaron Hoke led the Phoenix with 9 kills and 8 digs, while Waldman added 10 assists. 

The two matches today bring a close to the inaugural men's volleyball season.
