Volleyball Competes in Crossover

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team hosted a North Eastern Athletic Conference crossover event on Friday and Saturday. The Phoenix went 0-3 in the six team event falling to D'Youville College, Hilbert College , and Medaille College.

In the opening match versus D'Youville, the Spartans (6-8, 3-2) defeated the Phoenix (0-12, 0-8) by scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-13. The Spartans were able to pull away late in a competitive first set to win 25-20. In sets 2 and 3 the Spartans took commanding leads in each set en route to the 3-0 win. For the match the Phoenix had 15 kills against 18 errors on 68 attempts for an attacking percentage of -.044. The Spartans had 19 kills against 13 errors on 62 attempts for a .097 attacking percentage. Freshman Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) paced the Phoenix with 8 kills, while freshman Jeremy Waldman (New Oxford, Pa., New Oxford) led the team with 12 assists. Freshman Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) added 11 digs for the Phoenix.

Game 2 versus Hilbert College saw the Hawks (6-7, 3-3) win by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-20. For the match, the Phoenix had 30 kills against 13 errors on 83 attempts for a season high .205 attacking percentage. The Hawks had 36 kills against 14 errors on 82 attempts for a .268 attacking percentage. Freshman Zachary Zerr (Dallastown, Pa, Dallastown Area H.S.) led the Phoenix with 11 kills and Aaron Hoke added 10 kills. Waldman had 23 assists and Aaron Hoke added 12 digs in the loss.

The final game of the crossover came against Medaille College and the Mavericks (12-7, 7-0) continued their hot streak against the Phoenix winning by scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-14. The Mavericks used their major height advantage to control the match from the opening serve until the end. The Phoenix had 10 kills against 17 errors on 60 attempts for an attacking percentage of -117, while the Mavericks had 31 kills against 9 errors for a .386 attacking percentage. Aaron Hoke led the Phoenix with 6 kills and 5 digs. Waldman added 6 assists.

Wilson will be back in action next Saturday, March 12 at Lancaster Bible College.
