Phoenix Outdone By Raptors

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team played their first ever home contest today as they hosted Bard College in non-conference action. The Raptors defeated the Phoenix by a final score of 3-1.

The Phoenix (0-9) fell to the Raptors (3-13) by scores of 25-27, 25-22, 18-25, and 22-25.  The atmosphere at the Gannett Memorial Field House was outstanding as a large crowd showed up to support the team and they were treated to a good match. The opening set saw the Raptors score three straight points when down 24-23 to come back and win 27-25. During the second set, the Raptors jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, but a furious rally by the Phoenix brough the team back within 12-10 a few points later. The two teams traded the next several points with the Raptors clinging to a 21-20 advantage, however the Phoenix would score 5 of the last 6 points, including the set winner on a kill by freshman
Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy),  to win their first set ever 25-22.

The third set saw the Raptors take a 5 point advantage at 15-10. The teams would trade points to get to 20-15, but the Raptors would knock down the next 5 points for the 25-15 win in set 3. Set 4 was very competitive wiht the Raptors taking a 4 point lead midway through at 12-8. The Phoenix battled back to get within 1 point at 15-14, but the Raptors would score 5 of the next 7 points to go up 20-16. The Phoenix kept it close, but the visitors would go on to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.

For the match the Phoenix had 31 kills against 16 errors on 111 attempts for a .135 shooting percentage, while the Raptors had 48 kills against 12 errors on 119 attempts for a .303 shooting percentage. Aaron Hoke led the Phoenix with 19 kills and 2 aces. Freshman
Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) paced the team with 12 digs and freshman Jeremy Waldman (New Oxford, Pa., New Oxford) added 23 assists. 

Wilson will be back on the court this Friday night at 6:00 p.m. versus D'Youville College as part of a NEAC crossover tournament that will feature 9 matches and 6 teams at the Gannett Memorial Field House.
