(LATHAM, N.Y.) – The first weekly wards of the season have been released by the United East and Wilson's
Kate Seymour has been recognized for field hockey. The senior forward arguably had the best game of anyone to open the season as she scored four goals and an assist in leading the Phoenix to a win over Sweet Briar in the first game for anyone on the new artificial turf at Kris's Meadow.
Seymour tied a single game career best in goals with her haul and nine points. She previously matched that in last season's victory at Keuka on September 27. The Churchton, Md., native opened the scoring 1:51 into the second quarter of the season opener on an assist from
Haley Hamrick and it was all Blue and White from there. Seymour added a second just under four minutes later.
Her hat trick goal some just before the half and the fourth followed 2:07 into the third quarter on a dish from
Isabel Blake. Seymour then provided the helper on
Ginnah Kendall's insurance goal in the with 5:29 to go in the third.
This is Seymour's fourth Player of the Week selection.
The Phoenix will return to action with a road trip to Neumann this Wednesday with a 6 p.m. start.
