Field Hockey Fantastic In First Game On New Turf

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) — There was plenty to celebrate as Wilson defeated Sweet Briar in the first contest on the brand new artificial turf at Kris's Meadow on a warm Tuesday. Kate Seymour (Sr., Churchton, Md. / Southern) lit up the scoreboard while matching a career-best and the Phoenix scored four times in the second quarter to inundate the Vixens.

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix produced the first threat at 2:34 into the game when Ginnah Kendall (So., McConnellsburg, Pa. / Forbes Road) put a shot on goal that Reiyn Hart saved, and sparked more offensive chances with an abundance of penalty corners. More came in the second where the Phoenix generated three penalty corners in the opening stretch and broke through at 16:51, when Seymour scored off an assist from Haley Hamrick (Jr., Taneytown, Md. / Union Bridge) for a 1-0 lead.
  • Wilson continued to press with corners and shots before Seymour scored again at 20:29 from Petersen, and Hamrick added another at 21:34 off a Kendall assist to make it 3-0. Just before the end of the half, Seymour had a shot saved, but she controlled the rebound and promptly scored one second later to add to the lead. The Blue and White added late chances on a pair of Bost penalty corners, and generated 10 penalty corners in the frame, but Hart saved shots by Madison Hamrick, Kendall and Petersen as the quarter ended with the Phoenix ahead 4-0 at halftime.
  • Seymour wasn't finished and was involved early in the third quarter, having a shot saved before scoring from Isabel Blake (FY, Dover, Pa. / Northeaster) 2:07 into the to quarter to put the Phoenix ahead 5-0.
  • Sweet Briar created pressure on penalty corners, including shots that Bost cleared for defensive saves at 33:04 and 37:40, before Emmi Burdine scored from Antonia Supino at 37:59 to make it 5-1. The Phoenix responded off a penalty corner, with Kendall scoring from Seymour at 39:31 to push the margin back to 6-1 to set up the final.

  • Seymour matched her career high goals and points during the game with four and nine, respectively.
  • Kendall and Haley Hamrick both shined offensively with a goal and an assist.
  • Bost shored up a strong defensive effort by the back line with a pair of defensive saves.
  • Wilson outshot Sweet Briar 24-3 overall and 18-3 in shots on goal.
