Randy Hood Named Women's Volleyball Head Coach

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson College Director of Athletics Tina Hill has announced the hiring of Randy Hood as the new head coach of the Phoenix women's volleyball team. Hood makes his way to Chambersburg after serving the last seven seasons as the head coach of Penn State Mont Alto.
"I am very excited for the opportunity to coach women's volleyball at Wilson College! I am looking forward to building a culture of 'Team First' while working to build confidence in each player as we move forward," said Hood. "There will be plenty of work as we all move forward together as a single unit to develop a competitive volleyball program here at Wilson College!"
"We're thrilled to have Coach Hood joining the Phoenix family! His wealth of experience in the Central Pennsylvania region will serve our program well and his passion for the sport is contagious," said Director of Athletics Tina Hill. "We can't wait to see our program flourish under his leadership."
During his time with Mont Alto, the Nittany Lions saw unprecedented success with two USCAA national championships, a USCAA runner-up finish, and a USCAA fourth place finish. Over that stretch they went 134-63 overall, 65-20 in conference, and won two conference championships. Hood guided them to the postseason in each of his eight seasons with USCAA national tournament appearances the last four seasons.
Highlighting that stretch were two USCAA national championships where Nittany Lions went unbeaten in league competition and won two PSUAC titles in 2022 and 2023. Following the first title, he was also named the USCAA National Coach of the Year.
Mont Alto was also runner-up in 2021 and fourth place in 2024. Through the on-court success, Hood has coached 12 USCAA All-Americans, 27 Academic All-Americans, three PSUAC Rookies of the Year, and 21 All-PSUAC selections.
Overall, Hood brings with him 16 years of experience as a head coach in addition to many more at various levels in the central Pennsylvania region.
