Harrisburg Sweeps Wilson In Women's Volleyball

(MIDDLETOWN, Pa.) – The Wilson women's volleyball team made the trip up I-81 to take on Penn State Harrisburg in United East competition on Wednesday evening. The Lions entered the day as one of the best teams in the conference and showed why as they defeated the Phoenix in straight sets.

Abby Moreland  (Jr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) shined for the Wilson Blue and White as she paced the team with eight kills, the second most of anyone on the night.

The Basics

Scores: Wilson 0, Penn State Harrisburg 3 (25-13, 25-11, 25-14)

Venue: Capital Union Building

Records: Wilson 0-20, 0-7 UE; Penn State Harrisburg 15-5, 6-1 UE

How It Happened
  • The Lions pounced at the start as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the power of a kill, two aces, and a block. Kills from Alison Daniels (So., Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) and Moreland helped the Phoenix get on the board, but Harrisburg proved to be too powerful and quickly went up double-digits. An error and kills from both Ashlynn Babbitt (FY, Edenton, N.C. / John A. Holmes) and Moreland helped Wilson scores three-straight before the Lions closed out the set to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Kills from Moreland and Michaela Windisch (Jr., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) gave Wilson some early momentum in the second. A bad set by the Lions then put the Phoenix within one. Allyson Garcelon (Sr., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) served up an ace and Moreland added another kill two points later to keep the Phoenix within reach before the Lions started to pull away and go on a 14-2 run to go up 2-0.
  • The third set was Wilson's best start of the night as the Phoenix went point for point at the start until Garcelon scored a kill to put Wilson up 6-5. The Lions answered with six of the next eight points to regain control. Moreland kept Wilson in contention later with a kill and an ace to make it 18-14 until Harrisburg scored the next seven to take the sweep.
Inside The Numbers
  • Moreland's eight kills were only bested by Harrisburg's Hannah DeGregory who chalked up 10 on the evening.
  • Addie Hebert (Jr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) and Windisch paced the Phoenix receiving line with eight digs.
