(TYRONE, Pa.) – The Wilson College equestrian hunt seat team opened up its season over the weekend at the Grier School in a pair of shows hosted by Penn State. The Phoenix had some excellent rides with three first-time riders winning events in their debuts and two riders pointing up in their events.
As for the blue ribbon winners, those honors went to
Eleana Arrowsmith (FY, Boyertown, Pa.), Brianna Coxon (FY, Tariffville, Conn.), and
Grace Lilliech (FY, Portage, Pa.). Arrowsmith and Coxon both rode to first place finishes in novice to highlight Saturday's show, while Lilliech took first in the novice flat on Sunday.
Although it was the first show of the season,
Emily Johnson's (Sr., Wellsville, Pa.) and
Kendi Long (Sr., Media, Pa.) already qualified for the postseason after pointing up in their respective events. Johnson finished fourth in the intermediate flat and will now compete in open flat. Long was fifth in the limit flat and will move up to intermediate flat.
Other noteworthy rides on Saturday included
Emily Breighner (Jr., Nottingham, Md.) finishing second in intermediate flat. Johnson,
Danielle Garman (So., Dover, Pa.), Mahala Holland (So., Glen Burnie, Md.), and
Chloe Kelley (So., Taneytown, Md.) all added third place ribbons Saturday as well.
Sunday's highlights included Brighner, Long, and
Sarah Disney (FY, Roaring Spring, Pa.) all placing second. Brighner,
Allison Clayton (Sr., Morgantown, Pa.), and Garman also had third place rides.
