How It Happened
- There was no doubt about who was in control as Wilson had its best start of the year with an 8-0 run to open the day. The rally was fueled by an ace from Michaela Windisch (FY, Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) that made it 2-0 and was eventually followed by a kill from Moreland for a 6-0 lead. Although Clarks Summit scored the next point with a kill, Wilson kept pouring on the pressure and extended its lead to 14-1 with a pair of aces and a kill from Moreland. The Phoenix led by double digits the rest of the way as Moreland closed the game with another kill, her sixth of the set.
- Clarks Summit opened the second with the first two points, but the Phoenix were undeterred and came back with the next six with kills from Deah Menedis (Jr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) and Amelia Edens (Jr., Pasadena, Md. / Glen Burnie). Defensively Wilson didn't allow the Defenders to get any rhythm as they only scored consecutive points twice in the set. Following the aforementioned opening two, the second two came when the Phoenix were playing for game point which they eventually got on another Moreland swing.
- Wilson led throughout the third with a 4-0 run to start en route to a 15-1 advantage with kills from Moreland, Menedis, and Maddie Watson (So., Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Mennonite). Back-to-back kills from Allyson Garcelon (So., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) and Menedis followed to put the Blue and White up 19-3. Attacks from Anna Householder (Sr., Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) and Moreland also resulted in points for the Phoenix as they closed out the sweep.
Inside The Numbers
- Moreland recorded double digits in kills for the fourth consecutive match. Her 10 came on 23 swings with just three errors for an attack percentage of .304, easily setting a new season high in her rookie season.
- Wilson was excellent on the serves with 12 aces to equal a season-high and creating a new best in three set matches. Moreland led the group with five, while Windisch placed three. Niki Schussler (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) and Grace Owens (FY, Winchester, Va. / James Wood) each had a pair.
- Windisch set up the attach with 13 assists, but five others also set up attacks with Schussler leading the rest with four.
- Defensively Addie Hebert (FY, Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) paced the back row with 13 digs and passed the 250 mark for the season.
- The victory was the third consecutive for the Phoenix. In the past five meetings between the two schools Wilson is 4-1. All five matches have been 3-0 sweeps.
