How It Happened
- The Phoenix set the tone from the very start and let all in attendance know that this night belonged to the Blue and White representing Wilson. That was evidenced by a 12-0 run to start the contest and featured three kills from Moreland, two from Ashlynn Babbitt (So., Edenton, N.C. / John A. Holmes), and four aces from Jayda Lichty (FY, Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern). Riley Cramer (FY, Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) eventually got in the mix with back-to-back kills to make it 18-5, and after a Penn kill, Lichty and Hebert got Wilson back on track with a pair of kills and pair of aces, respectively. Hannah Pollard (FY, Wilmington, N.C. / Wilmington Christian) paired with Babbit to block a Penn attempt to take the set.
- The Wildcats found some rhythm at the start of the second and it resulted in an early 6-3 lead for the visitors. It was no worry for the Phoenix who answered with a 7-0 run to regain control. Olivia Heidrich (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) served up an ace to tie it at 6-all and Moreland capped the run with a kill. Errors helped Penn gain some momentum as it closed within two at 16-14, but the hopes of a comeback were dashed as Wilson answered with the next three points which included kills from Moreland and Pollard. Moreland added another kill and Heidrich served up another ace to help Wilson close the frame on 6-2 run.
- Wilson returned to a first set form and opened play with five-straight points. Lichty led the charge with a pair of aces while Heidich added a third to make it 8-1. Although Penn tried to battle back, the Phoenix kept them at arm's length and closed the night on a 5-0 run with two kills from Lichty and Pollard as well as a Windisch ace.
