Harrisburg Too Much For Women's Volleyball

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson hosted the top team in the United East as Penn State Harrisburg visited campus on Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix battled throughout but eventually succumbed to the Lions in straight sets.

The Basics

Scores: Wilson 0, Penn State Harrisburg 3 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16)

Venue: Gannett Memorial Field House

Records: Wilson 3-19, 1-7 UE; Penn State Harrisburg 14-6, 8-0 UE

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix came out fighting and matched Harrisburg well at the beginning of the match. After it looked like the Lions might start to pull away, a 4-0 run with a Jayda Lichty (FY, Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) kill, a Michaela Windisch (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) ace, and a block from Lichty and Alexis Landis (So., Nottingham, Pa. / Octorara) helping the cause and giving Wilson an 11-10 lead. Harrisburg was able to answer and reclaim the lead, but back-to-back kills from Lichty helped Wilson stay close as late as 20-18. Unfortunately the Lions reeled off five consecutive points to end the frame and take a 1-0 lead.
  • Wilson opened up a 4-1 start in the second thanks to a pair of Lichty kills and one from Abby Moreland (Sr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin). Lichty added a couple more to keep the Phoenix within two at 11-9 before the Lions created separation with a 5-0 run. A Sydney Tracey (So., York, Pa. / Dallastown / Penn State Mont Alto) kill and a Riley Cramer (FY, Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) ace made it 23-17 late before Harrisburg closed the set with the next two points. In the third, Moreland scored a kill and an ace to make it 10-8 in favor of the visitors, but Harrisburg repeated the formula of the second to pull away shortly after to take the sweep.
Inside The Numbers
  • Lichty led the Phoenix with seven kills.
  • Addie Hebert (Sr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) paced the defense with 10 digs.
  • Landis added two blocks for the Phoenix.
  • Brianna Ondishin Ribon led all players with 13 kills.
