How It Happened
- After a fast start by the Lions, Wilson climbed back into contention with a 6-3 run to get within two at 12-10. Ashlynn Babbitt (So., Edenton, N.C. / John A. Holmes) was strong during the start with three early kills. At that time Abington started to take control with an 8-0 run. Wilson scored two of the next three on a pair of Jayda Lichty (FY, Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) kills before Abington closed the frame with four of the following six.
- The Phoenix faired better in the second and took an early lead as kills from Sydney Tracey (So., York, Pa. / Dallastown / Penn State Mont Alto), Abby Moreland (Sr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin), and Babbitt helped make the score 8-6. Shortly after, Riley Cramer (FY, Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) made a block, Moreland followed with an ace, and Lichty scored a kill to make it 12-9. Another Lichty kill make it 14-10 before the Lions put together a 7-0 run to regain the lead. Wilson was able to stay within two before Abington closed the set with a 7-2 run.
- That momentum carried to the third as the Lions opened up with a 7-2 run. Wilson clawed its way to within one thanks to kills from Tracey and Cramer as well as back-to-back aces from Moreland to make the score 9-8. However, that was the closest the Phoenix could get as Abington slowly extended its lead the rest of the way.
