(LEBANON, Pa.) – The fall portion of the men's golf season came to close as Wilson competed in the Lebanon Valley Invitational on Monday. Although scores across the board were high, the Phoenix did well enough to tie for 12th along with DeSales and finish better than three other teams with a 368.
The competition included a pair of Division II opponents in Millersville and Chestnut Hill. The Marauders took home the top prize with a team score of 306. The Griffins followed in second with a 323. Penn State-Harrisburg turned in the top score by a Division III squad with a 330.
Yuchen Huang (FY, Taiwan / Veritas Meihua International) and
Robert Kozicki (So., Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill) led the way for the Phoenix as both turned in a 91 to tie for 50th individually. The other half of the team score came in a balanced fashion not too far off from Huang and Kozicki as
Collin Bitler (Sr., Frederick, Md. / Thomas Johnson) and
Ben Metz (Jr., Denver, Pa. / Garden Spot) both had rounds of 93. They both finished tied for 56th.
Dylan Skeele (Jr., DeRuyter, N.Y. / DeRuyter) was the fifth player of the Wilson quintet and turned in a 97.
Huang and Metz had the best individual hole results on the team as both recorded a pair of birdies. Huang's came on holes 11 and 16. Hole 11 was a 417-yard par 4 while 16 was a 372-yard par 4. He was the only golfer to birdie the 11th and just one of six to do so on 16.
Metz's birdies came on holes 2 and 7, both of which were par 5's at 507 yards and 433 yards, respectively. He was one of 10 to birdie the second and one of 18 to birdie the seventh.
The course was at the Lebanon Country Club and was a par 72 6,562 yards long.
The Phoenix will return to the greens during the spring season.
