CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College men's soccer team took to Kris's Meadow this afternoon for a non-conference match against Penn State Altoona. Despite the Phoenix effort, the Lions emerged on top with a final score of 1-0.
How It Happened: Wilson had the first shot of the game with senior
Victor Ortiz (Caguas, Puerto Rico, Ana G. Mendez University System) hitting a shot that the Lions' keeper saved. A few minutes later Penn State Altoona found the back of the net giving them the 1-0 lead over the Phoenix. Wilson had three more shots in the first half but could not find the back of the net keeping the score at 1-0 transitioning into the second half. Wilson had an attempt to tie the game at one nearly 30 minutes into the second half, off a shot from freshman
Martin Souza (Manassas Park, VA, Manassas Park High School) however, the goal was called back because of an earlier offsides call leaving the Phoenix down a goal as the game played on. Despite Wilson's best effort the game concluded with a final score of 1-0.
Inside the Box Score: Three Phoenix players were tied for the most shots on the team with
Connor Bowers (Hagerstown, MD, North Hagerstown High School), Colin Davidson (Northampton, PA, Northampton Area High School), and Dylan Youmans (Westminster, MD, South Carroll High School) each having two apiece. Senior goalkeeper
Billy Merk (Macungie, PA, Lehigh Carbon Community College) had six saves on the day.
