Arbogast Scores as Wilson Falls To Brandywine

(MEDIA, Pa.) – The Wilson men's soccer team and Penn State Brandywine squared off in United East action on Wednesday afternoon. A second half goal by Eric Arbogast (Sr., Duncansville, Pa. / Holliday) had helped the Phoenix pull even, but a goal by the Lions in the 78th minute was the difference maker as Brandywine took the win.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 1, Penn State Brandywine 2

Venue: Brandywine Field

Records: Wilson 2-10-2, 2-5 UE; Penn State Brandywine 2-11-0, 1-6-0 UE

How It Happened

·       Wilson put the pressure on Brandywine early with a pair of corner kicks in the first four minutes, but neither were able to generate a shot. The Phoenix received three more corners in the closing minutes of the first half, but were limited to just one during that stretch. The Lions were able to counter the last of those and were able to score with 40 seconds left in the first half for a 1-0 lead.

·       A free kick helped set up Wilson for an equalizer after Brandywine was called for offsides in the 57th minute. Landon Howe (Sr., Martinsburg, W.Va. / St. Maria Goretti) took the free kick and found Bryson Curtis (Sr., Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) deep in the right corner of the attacking zone. Curtis was able to put a picture-perfect centering pass where Arbogast was waiting and able to flick it in.

·       Arbogast had another chance in the 74th minute with a shot off a corner kick, but it was blocked. Two minutes later Brandywine was able to counter and found the back of the net as Will Keith found Brian Zuniga. Wilson had a few opportunities afterwards, but the only shot on goal came in the final minute by Owen Bennett (FY, Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) and was saved by the Lions' keeper.

Inside The Numbers

·       Shots were fairly even with Wilson on top of a 14-13 difference. Shots on goal were evenly split at four each.

·       Corner kicks heavily favored the Phoenix 13-6.

·       Arbogast has now scored a goal in the past three games.

·       Curtis recorded a point in back-to-back games with his first assist of the year.
