CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -The Wilson College men's soccer team had a hard-fought battle this afternoon against the visiting Gallaudet University. The Phoenix and Bison went back and forth for 90 minutes to finish the game out with a tied score of 3-3.
How It Happened: The Phoenix offense scored the first goal early with freshman
Liam Yeatman (Roseland,VA, Phoenixville Area High School) sending in a ball to fellow freshman
Brian Mulholland (Oracle, AZ, Canyon del Oro High School) off a corner kick just two minutes after kick-off. The Bison were quick to respond tying the game at 1-1 at the nine-minute mark. Gallaudet expanded their lead to 2-1 four minutes later leaving Wilson to play catch up. The Phoenix answered with the tying goal just two minutes later to even the score at 2-2. off the boot of freshman
Aidan Diem (Baltimore, MD, Archbishop Curley High School). Two minutes later, the Bison regained the lead to bring the score to 3-2 after just 18 minutes of play. The goal scoring came to a halt, despite the efforts of both teams scraping and fighting to find the back of the net again but the score remained 3-2 going into the half. In the second half, Wilson was hunting for the equalizer which came in the 69th minute of action. Freshman
Martin Souza (Manassas Park, VA, Manassas Park High School) secured the equalizer for the Phoenix striking the ball across the net and into the bottom left corner tying the game for a third time with the score now 3-3 with 21 minutes remaining. The ignited a fire for both teams to find the game-winner but ultimately the defenses held strong and the game concluded with a final score of 3-3.
Inside the Box Score: Souza, Diem, and Mulholland each secured the first goals of their collegiate careers in today's match against Gallaudet University. Wilson finished offensively with three goals,13 shots, and one assist. The Phoenix keepers
Vincent Natale (Mt. Airy, Maryland, Linganore High School) and Billy Merk (Macungie, PA, Lehigh Carbon Community College) combined for six saves in today's competition.
