CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College women's volleyball team took on the Mounties of Mount Aloysius College for a midweek nonconference matchup. After a close battle, the Mounties pulled out on top with final set scores of 25-12, 25-18, and 25-21.
How It Happened: Sophomore
Alexis Buckley (Millsboro, Del., Indian River) got the Phoenix rolling with an early three points off an ace and two kills from
Niki Schussler (Chambersburg, Pa., Cumberland Valley Christian). The Mounties answered quickly with three of their own points. The first set continued to be close until Mount Aloysius went on a fifteen-point rally to gain and expand the lead, which was briefly interrupted by a kill from
Schussler to put the score at 21-12. Shortly after the Mounties would finish out the set with a final score of 25-12. Moving into the second set the match was fairly even going point for point until the Phoenix were able to expand their lead off two kills from
Schussler and a service ace from
Jenna Dixon (California, Pa., California) to bring the score to 8-6. Mount Aloysius would regain the lead shortly after bringing the score to 10-8. With the score at 16-10, Wilson was able to secure three points to disrupt the Mounties flow and bring the score to 16-13. From there, the teams traded points until the Mounties were able to secure a 25-18 victory. In set three, Mount Aloysius got off to an early 7-3 lead over Wilson. The Phoenix were able to gain a two-point lead over the Mounties off services from
Buckley bringing the score to 15-13. The match would tie at 16 before Mount Aloysius was able to expand their lead to 21-16. A dual effort from
Allyson Garcelon (Shrewsbury, Pa., Susquehannock) and Deah Menedis (Reisterstown, Md., Franklin) would cut the lead to 21-19. The game would again go back and forth until the Mounties secured a 25-21 win to grab the match.
Inside the Box Score: Niki Schussler would lead the team in kills earning 12 kills across three sets.
Allyson Garcelon (Shrewsbury, Pa., Susquehannock) led the Phoenix in both service aces and assists with three aces and 14 assists.
