Latrobe, Pa.- The Wilson College men's soccer team hit the road for their first game of the regular season. The Phoenix drop their first game of the regular season to the Bearcats of St. Vincent College with a final score of 2-0.
How It Happened: St. Vincent earned the first few shots of the game but the Wilson defense held strong blocking the early shots. The Phoenix had an early chance off the foot of freshmanÂ
Liam Yeatman (Roseland,VA, Phoenixville Area High School)Â however, the shot was saved by the Bearcat keeper providing the opportunity for a Wilson corner which was cleared away by the St. Vincent defense. The Bearcats scored the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute off a rebounded ball in the box. The Bearcat offense continued to press but the Phoenix defense did not allow any further goals in the half. Wilson had three shots in the remaining minutes by freshmanÂ
Martin Souza (Manassas Park,VA, Manassas Park High School)Â and two from seniorÂ
Ryder Wallace (Jim Thorpe, PA., Jim Thorpe)Â but they were unable to find the back of the net. Transitioning into the second half, Wilson had the first chance with a shot from Wallace. After a hard-fought battle from both sides, St. Vincent secured their second goal of the game in the 71st minute of play. The Phoenix fought hard to come back with seven more scoring opportunities but fell short as time expired.Â
