CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College baseball team returned to Henninger Field today for a non-conference match up with the University of Mary Washington Eagles this afternoon. The Phoenix (19-8, 6-2 CSAC) would take a close win in extra innings for game one with a final score of 6-5. The Eagles (16-17, 0-4 Coast to Coast) would rally and take game two with a final score of 14-3.

Game One: Wilson started the first game off strong with a two-run home run from senior Gerald Buchanan (Olney, MD, Montgomery CC (MD)) to left field which brought home junior Dean Mercer (Dunedin, FL., Clearwater Central Catholic). The next run for the Phoenix came from freshman Doc Daniels (Deal Island, MD, Crisfield HS) who was hit home off a sacrifice fly from senior Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, MD., Shepherd University) to extend the Wilson lead to 3-0 heading into the third inning. Mary Washington fought back in the top of the third inning to tie the game at three off a double and a deep two-run RBI single. The Eagles extended their lead by one at the start of the fourth inning with a single to left field allowing the third base runner to pass home plate. Mary Washington held the lead until the bottom of the seventh inning when Wilson sophomore Bryan DeCarlo (Gaithersburg, MD, Hagerstown CC (MD)) capitalized on a wild pitch to force extra innings. The score remained even through eight innings but the Eagles broke the stalemate first with a home run to left field to hold a 5-4 lead moving into the bottom of the ninth. Sophomore Haden Hoff (Westminster, MD, Fairmont State Univ.) ended the game with a walk-off two-run home run to give the Phoenix the win with a final score of 6-5.
