Baseball Clips Ravens

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's baseball team hosted Rosemont College this cold and windy afternoon at Henninger Field. The Phoenix (14-3, 3-1 CSAC) swept both ends of the doubleheader over the Ravens (3-12, 0-2 CSAC) by scores of 18-2 and 10-3.

How It Happened Game 1: The Phoenix blew the game open in the second inning. A double by junior Michael Mcgee (Frederick, MD., Thomas Johnson) scored freshman Ryan Torres (Baltimore, MD, Archbishop Curley HS) for the first run of the game. Later in the inning a single by senior Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, MD., ) scored McGee and senior KJ Curry (Bowie, MD., ) to make the score 3-0. Junior Dean Mercer (Dunedin, FL., Clearwater Central Catholic) laced an RBI single to right field to bring in sophomore Haden Hoff (Westminster, MD, ). A monster 3-run blast over the right field fence off the bat of senior Gerald Buchanan (Olney, MD, ) pushed the lead to 7-0. The final run of the inning came across as Curry walked for the second time which brought home freshman Doc Daniels (Deal Island, MD, Crisfield HS). The Ravens answered with a single run in the top of the third, but the Phoenix poured on five more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Four straight doubles by Mercer, Buchanan, sophomore Brady Andre (Brookeville, MD, Sherwood HS), and Daniels started a series of eight consecutive hits for the Phoenix. A triple by McGee and an RBI single by Curry finished off the inning with the hosts now leading 13-1. After senior Cam Nolet (Annapolis, MD., ) struck out the side in the fourth, the Phoenix added a run when freshman Alex Seidleck (Crownsville, MD, Indian Creek HS) smashed his first collegiate homerun to left field. McGee picked up another RBI, this time via a sacrifice fly that brought home Andre for a 15-1 advantage. Two more runs came across in the sixth as freshman Jamari Pooler (Chester, VA, Thomas Dale HS) drew a bases loaded walk that scored senior Dylan Procopio (Pittsburgh, PA., ) and sophomore Bryan DeCarlo (Gaithersburg, MD, ) hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Torres. The Phoenix tallied their final run in the seventh when Torres drove home sophomore Justin Fleig (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin HS)

Inside the Box Score Game 1: Hoff and Andre each tallied 3 hits. The Phoenix recorded 8 extra base hits including home runs by Buchanan and Seidleck. Cook, Mercer, and Curry recoded a stolen base apiece. Nolet picked up his fifth win of the season after throwing 5 innings and allowing 1 run while striking out 11.

How It Happened Game 2: Much like game 1, the Phoenix jumped out to an early lead. In the bottom of the first, Hoff walked and came around to score on a double off the bat of Seidleck. A sacrifice fly by Buchanan brought home Seidleck and gave the Phoenix a 2-0. Freshman Chris Baumann (Snow Hill, MD, Snow Hill HS) struck out the Ravens in order in the second inning. In the bottom of the second, after walks to senior Kevin Finn (Gaithersburg, MD., Watkins Mill) and Hoff, Cook cleared the bases with a 2-RBI triple. Cook also scored on the play after an errant throw by the shortstop to make the score 5-0. The Ravens took advantage of three hits and a Phoenix miscue to plate three runs in the top of the third. Neither tea threatened offensively for the next few innings until the Phoenix tallied three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. An RBI single by Seidleck drove home Cook, who had singled and stole second. Later in the inning, Andre crushed his first homerun of the season to right that scored Seidleck and pushed the Phoenix advantage to 8-3. An RBI single by Cook and an RBI groundout by Buchanan rounded out the scoring for the Phoenix in the seventh and made the final score 10-3.

Inside the Box Score Game 2: Cook and Seidleck paced the offense with 3 hits each. Cook tallied 3 RBI while Seidleck, Buchanan, and Andre recorded 2 RBI each. Baumann picked up the win after going 5 innings and striking out 13 Ravens.
