CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College men's soccer team kicked off against the Giants of Keystone College earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix started slow but had a stronger second half to bring the final score of the game to 3-1.
How It Happened: The Giants were quick to score with their first goal coming in the fifth minute of action. Keystone would have six more shots before Wilson would get their first shot of the game off the foot of
Dylan Youmans (Westminster, MD, South Carroll High School) which was saved by the Keystone keeper. The second goal of the game came in the 29th minute, extending the Giants' lead to 2-0. In the 34th minute of play, Keystone scored their third goal of the game bringing the score to 3-0 with just over 10 minutes left in the half. Three more of the Wilson players had shots in the remaining minutes of the first half but were unable to capitalize. In the second half, the Phoenix defense stepped up keeping the Giants scoreless. A composed back line for Wilson earned seven offsides calls to be called against the Keystone players. In the 77th minute, the lone goal for the Phoenix was scored after a cross into the box bounced head to head, first off the head of
Brian Mulholland (Oracle,AZ, Canyon del Oro High School), then the head of
Noah Wickenheiser (Cresco, PA., Notre Dame) which found the back of the net.
Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix has seven shots in the game from seven different Wilson players. The goal-keeping duo of
Vincent Natale (Mt. Airy, Maryland, Linganore High School) and Billy Merk (Macungie, PA, Lehigh Carbon Community College) combined for six saves after facing 17 shots from the Giants and nine shots on goal.
