Phoenix Soar Over Eagles

Box Score

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team hosted the College of Saint Elizabeth in North Eastern Athletic Conference action today. The Phoenix soared to 9-1 victory over the Eagles.

During the opening minutes of the first half, the Phoenix got a pair of goals just a few minutes apart as freshman
Raihan Azim (Auckland, New Zealand, One Tree Hill) scored on a penalty kick and sophomore Justin Vizzi (Spotswood, NJ, Spotswood ) took a cross from fellow sophomore Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford ) and beat the Eagles goalkeeper giving the hosts a 2-0 lead. Later in the half, sophomore Kevin Lysaght (Toms River, Pa. , Toms River North ) gathered a rebound in front and put the chip shot in the top of the goal for a 3-0 lead. Midway through the half, freshman Aleczander DeJesus (Newburg, Md., Maurice J. McDonough) found senior Jacob Benford (Rockwood, Pa. , Rockwood Area Sr. ) who stuffed the ball in the back of the net for his second goal of the season, giving the Phoenix a 4-0 advantage. Moments later, junior Bassil Andijani (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Jeelfaisal) took a cross from Benford to score his first goal of the season and push the Phoenix lead to 5-0. Just before the half, Vizzi netted his second goal of the half as he ripped a shot from the center past the keeper and the Phoenix took a 6-0 edge into halftime.

The second half started much like the first half ended, with the Phoenix scoring another goal. Benford dished a pass from the left side and DeJesus knocked in a perfectly timed header for his first goal of the season as the hosts extended their lead to 7-0. The Phoenix would add two more goal to their total, the first off of an own goal and the second came late in the game when Lysaght delivered a great ball on a corner kick and sophomore
Tyler Alexander (Hagerstown, Md. , South Hagerstown ) finished it off with a header to provide the final 9-1 margin of victory.

For the match, the Phoenix held a 34-6 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. In goal, the Phoenix combination of freshmen
Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) and Jarrett Rickerds (Knoxville, Md., Boonsboro), along with sophomore Michael Martin (Martinsburg, W.Va., Musselman ), each recorded a save.

Wilson will be back in action on October 1 at 3:00 p.m. at home versus Wells College.
