Phoenix Triumph Over Wildcats

Raihan Azim scored two goals today, including the game winning goal in overtime.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Today, Wilson College took on the Pennsylvania College of Technology in a tightly contested North Eastern Atlantic Conference game. The Phoenix defeated the Wildcats in overtime 2-1.

While the game was scoreless in the first period, the Phoenix (3-4-1, 2-1-1)  put more shots on net than their opponents, outshooting them 6-2. The two teams battled it out, but neither was able to put the ball in the back of the net, and the first half ended 0-0. There wouldn't be a goal until the second half, more than 65 minutes into the game when the Wildcats (2-5, 1-2) scored the first goal. Gerry Lua took a shot from outside the 18 meter line that ricocheted off the post, sending it just barely into the goal.

The goal gave the Wildcats the advantage, but the Phoenix kept their momentum and put a goal on the scoreboard less than 10 minutes later, when Raihan Azim (Auckland, New Zealand) scored off a gorgeous penalty kick. During the remainder of the second half, the Phoenix didn't allow any shots on goal from the Wildcats. Before the second half ended, Azim was able to get off one more shot that went just wide of the goal. The second half ended 1-1 and the Phoenix faced the Wildcats in overtime play.

It only took the Phoenix 1 minute and 25 seconds to end overtime and win the match. Azim scored his second goal of the game from the top of the box, beating the goalie high as the ball sailed into the top of the net. The game was tight, but the Phoenix worked hard to come out on top and put another hash mark in the win column.

In the second half, the Wildcats had three yellow cards. Overall, the Phoenix had 13 corner kicks to 1 for the Wildcats.

The Phoenix match up against the College of Saint Elizabeth tomorrow, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. in conference action.
