Men's Soccer Drops Opener to Seagulls

SALISBURY, Md. - The Wilson College men's soccer team traveled to Salisbury University to take on the Seagulls in the opening match of the Elmer Lord Tournament. The Phoenix fell to the host Seagulls by a score of 8-0.

Six different players scored for Salisbury (1-0-0) which scored three goals in the first half, before adding five more goals in the second half. 

Wilson (0-1-0) was limited to just one shot during the match, which was taken by freshman
Raihan Azim (Auckland, New Zealand, One Tree Hill) early in the first half.

Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) collected four saves, but allowed six goals before being lifted for sophomore Michael Martin (Martinsburg, W.Va., Musselman ), who allowed two goals while making two saves in the final twenty-five minutes of action.

Four different Seagulls found the net during the second half as the hosts pulled away. Leslie Umunna started the second half scoring just ten minutes in and Dolph Hegewisch found the back of the net a minute later. Joshua Lord scored midway through the half and Ryan Spadin added a pair of goals in the final ten minutes to cap off the scoring for the Seagulls.

The Seagulls held a 28-1 shots advantage and enjoyed a 7-0 edge in corners.

Wilson will continue play in the Elmer Lord Tournament tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. versus St. Mary's College of Maryland.
