Volleyball Drops A Pair at Crossover

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team wrapped up their first North Eastern Athletic Conference crossover weekend with losses to SUNY Poly and Gallaudet University.

Wilson (0-6, 0-4) dropped the opening match of the day to SUNY Poly (6-5, 3-0) 3-0 by scores of 25-8, 25-17, and 25-14. Freshman Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) led the Phoenix offensive attack with a game high 9 kills, while freshman Simahj James (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Northeast High) led the team with 2 blocks and 4 assists. Sophomore Hanna Quarry (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) tallied a game high 9 digs for the Phoenix.

For the match the Phoenix had 14 kills against 19 errors on 68 attempts for a -.074 attacking percentage, while the Wildcats had 32 kills against 11 errors on 57 attempts for a .368 attacking percentage.

The second match of the day featured a match-up with defending conference champion Gallaudet University (4-8, 3-1). The Bison won the match 3-0 by scores of 25-7, 25-6, and 25-8. Quarry led the Phoenix with 3 kills and 4 blocks, while freshman Kaydi Brubaker (Williamsburg, Pa., Williamsburg) paced the team in service aces and digs.

For the match, the Phoenix had 5 kills against 18 errors on 48 attempts for an attacking percentage of -.271, while the Bison had 28 kills against 3 errors on 48 attempts for a .521 attacking percentage.

Wilson returns to the court next weekend at the York College Tournament. The Phoenix open with Fairleigh Dickinson University at Florham followed by a match with Marietta College.
