Phoenix Clawed by Nittany Lions

Box Score

ABINGTON, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team continued North Eastern Athletic Conference play today at Penn State Abington. The Phoenix fell to the Nittany Lions by a score of 4-1.

The Phoenix (1-3-1, 0-1-1) fell behind the Nittany Lions (5-1, 4-0) early in the first half as Hernando Villamil took a cross from Chris Schlegel and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. A quick answer was made by the Phoenix when freshman
Raihan Azim (Auckland, New Zealand, One Tree Hill) took a touch from sophomore Justin Vizzi (Spotswood, NJ, Spotswood ) and beat the keeper for the equalizer at the 21:24 mark of the half. Villamil provided the response for the Nittany Lions with his second goal of the half as he took a pass from Justin Tobin through the middle and beat freshman Phoenix goalkeeper Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) to put the hosts up 2-1 midway through the first half.

Villamil completed the first half hat trick with a goal less than ten minutes later, pushing the Nittany Lions lead to 3-1 heading into the break. The Phoenix had an opportunity to pull within one when sophomore
Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) took a header that hit off the post at the 57:44 mark, but that would be the final shot for the visitors. The Nittany Lions would tack on another goal ten minutes later and go on for the 4-1 victory.

For the match the Nittany Lions held a 13-7 advantage in shots and enjoyed a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.

Wilson returns to the field tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Bryn Athyn.
