Men's Soccer Downed by Wells

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson college men's soccer team welcomed Wells College for a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest. The visiting Express downed the Phoenix by a score of 2-0.

In a tightly contested match, the Express (5-2-2, 3-1-1 NEAC) used single goals in each half to top the Phoenix (4-5-1, 3-2-1 NEAC) on a rainy and wet afternoon. The Express put the pressure on early with a trio of shots, two of which were saved by freshman goalkeeper Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) and the third hit the cross bar. Midway through the half, after a shot by freshman Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary), the Express got on the board first when Hunter Sowersby passed the ball from the left side to the center and found Christian Garavito who put it in the right post and put the visitors up 1-0. Freshman Raihan Azim (Auckland, New Zealand, One Tree Hill) would take aim on goal two times in the first half, but was unable to beat the Express keeper and the Phoenix trailed 1-0 at the half.

The second half played out much like the first half as the Express got a goal from Justin Bingham midway through to put the visitors up 2-0. Shots by freshman Shane Ray (Sharptown, Md., Mardela) and a junior Effren Amezquita (Xela, Guatemala, Chambersburg) weren't able to find the back of the net as the Phoenix offense stalled and the Express would go on to win the match 2-0.

For the match, the Express held a 13-12 edge in shots and a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks.

Wilson is back in action tomorrow versus Keuka College in a NEAC match at 1:00 p.m. at Mercersburg Academy.
